Meath Women's Refuge & Support Services publish 10 Calls to Actions for General Election candidates in Meath West and Meath East.

Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Services has launched its annual Christmas Appeal, asking the community in Meath to support women and children affected by domestic violence across the county. We are so grateful for the generosity of families, communities and businesses across Meath who give each year. While our staff salaries are funded by the State, donations and grants help us provide counselling, play therapy, activities for families and maintain our refuge building.

A new pilot project, Zero Tolerance Meath, launches today and aims to build capacity to prevent Domestic, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence (DSGBV) in County Meath. Over the next three years, this project will use a community-led approach to prevent and respond to DSGBV, hoping to create a safer community for all women and girls. The project is led by Meath Women’s Refuge and Support Services, with funding from CUAN, and is being evaluated by Maynooth University.

Today, 20th September 2024, Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Service launch a new report entitled ‘No Safety Net: The Cost of Survival’ detailing the impact of flexible cash payments to women survivors of domestic violence over the past four years.

Domestic Violence Service Providers in Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Louth took part in a one-day census on the 29th of February 2024 to demonstrate the considerable and continued demand for their services and the reality facing women and children experiencing domestic abuse in Ireland.

Attending the launch, Sinead Smith, CEO, Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Services, said: “Having a central agency responsible for a unified response to address domestic, sexual and gender-based violence is a long overdue and important development for Ireland."

Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Services are the latest charity to partner with Leinster Rugby for the 2023/24 season and will work with the club for the month of January.

A new report from Trinity College Dublin evaluating a child-centred and trauma informed project to support children in refuge from domestic violence at Meath Women’s Refuge and Support Services was launched today to coincide with World Children’s Day. The study represents the first time that research has been conducted in Ireland with children in refuge. The report was launched by Ombudsman for Children, Dr. Niall Muldoon.
